Austin lawyer returns to State Pension Review Board

Shari Shivers
Shari Shivers has returned to the Texas Pension Review Boardthe state agency that oversees state and local public retirement systems regarding their actuarial soundness and compliance with state law.


An attorney in the Legal Division of the Texas Legislative Council, Shivers previously served on the board from 1997 to 2009. Gov. Greg Abbott appointed Shivers to serve on the board, replacing Judge Cable whose term expired Jan. 31. Shivers' term expires Jan. 31, 2023. 

In an email to TEXPERS, Anumeh Kumar, executive director of the State Pension Review Board, said the staff is excited to have Shivers back on the board. 

Shivers is a retirement plans associate and group benefits associate, certified by the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist Program of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, according to a Sept. 4 announcement of her appointment from Gov. Abbott's office. In addition, Shivers is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Travis County Women Lawyers Association. She also is a sustainer member of the Junior League of  Austin, member of the Women Investing in Success and Education, a former member of the Austin Women's Symphony League, and former board member of Parents and Friends of Liberal Arts and Science Academy. 

Shivers earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas at Austin School of Law.
